Fun run promotes violence awareness

The Weber/Morgan Domestic Violence Coalition presents “Breaking Free,” a domestic violence awareness 5K run at 8 a.m. July 4 at the Ogden City Rodeo Grounds, Lorin Farr Park, 601 Jefferson Ave.

Breaking Free started in 2010 as an effort to increase community involvement with regards to domestic violence Awareness. It was run in conjunction with the Hot Rock ‘N 4th, which is headed by the American Dream Foundation.

All proceeds from the run are put back into the community in the form of training and education. The training is for professionals who work in the fields of domestic violence, to increase their awareness and also increase their ability to combat this problem. Education goes back into the community in the form of presentations, education materials, and information to community members to help with understanding how the dynamics of domestic violence and how it effects everyone.

All participants will be entered into a raffle for prizes donated by local businesses. Each participant will also get a t-shirt and pin for participating and an entrance wrist band into the Hot Rock ‘N 4th. The wrist bands will allow them access to the demolition derby in the evening of July 4th, and then fireworks at dusk.
