Co-chairs named for Farmington Festival Days

FARMINGTON -- Two former city councilmen, who chose not to run for third terms of office in 2011, have been named co-chairmen for the city’s annual Festival Days in 2013.

The city council formally approved the appointments of Rick Dutson and Sid Young to head the event during a recent meeting. Both served eight years on the city council and have experience in details related to the city’s annual celebration.

The event is scheduled for July 8-13, 2013.

Safety concerns limit staging area

FARMINGTON -- City space to build floats for the annual Festival Days celebration will not be so available to outside groups in the future.

This year, as in the past, some church groups were allowed to build floats for the city’s annual celebration, using city space for the staging. The practice has raised some security concerns, according to City Manager Dave Millheim.

Farmington seeks help for Festival Days

Reviewing the events of the recent celebration of Festival Days and looking toward the next year, one city official is asking for at least two key volunteers to oversee the next spectacle.

Neil Miller, director of Parks and Recreation, is asking city officials to consider putting someone in charge of the 2012 event, plus name a chair-elect, who can prepare to lead the event the year after.

FARMINGTON -- A five-day celebration, capped off by a parade and fireworks, will highlight the celebration of Festival Days in this community from July 5-9.

Added art planned for Farmington Festival Days

The city’s annual Festival Days celebration will have an added touch of art this year.

A number of local artists are expected to showcase local landscape paintings during the celebration, which will eventually be part of the new décor for City Hall.
