Mock grounds, pounds in MMA win

Prior to his co-main event heavyweight mixed martial arts match against Ogden's Craig Mock Saturday night, late substitute Mike Robinson was announced as "hailing from parts unknown." Three minutes and one second later, Robinson knew exactly where was was: in West Haven and pounded into submission by the 230-pound Mock, who easily triumphed before a large crowd at The Gym.

Roy man killed in Vegas casino wasn't fighting, police say

ROY -- The man killed in a fight in a Las Vegas casino last week had his hands in his pockets when he was assaulted, his girlfriend told the Standard-Examiner.

Services for John Massie, 46, are scheduled for Thursday. The Roy resident was killed during a fight at O'Sheas Casino in Las Vegas in the early hours of July 6.

"I would like John to be remembered for the kind, loving man I love," said his girlfriend, Rachelle Weaver, who works at the Standard-Examiner. "He loved his children, his mother, sisters and many close friends."

Mom admits to bad decision for encouraging daughter, 12, to fight

FRESNO, Calif. -- A Fresno mother accused of encouraging her 12-year-old daughter to fight another girl -- a 35-second battle posted on YouTube -- said Monday that school officials ignored her complaints about her daughter being bullied.

In her first interview since her arrest in September, Carla Jimenez, 43, admitted that she made a poor decision when she told her daughter to defend herself against the other girl instead of breaking up the fight.
