'Spirit Squad' moviemaker adds hazing scene to new film made in Ogden

OGDEN -- When Thom Rockwell began work six months ago on a trailer for his upcoming film "Spirit Squad," depicting five crime-fighting Ogden High School cheerleaders, he never imagined he might have to alter the fictional movie to include a dose of reality.

Perfect 36: South Ogden teen aces ACT test

SOUTH OGDEN -- Last spring Kasper Kubica felt confident he had done well on the ACT, a college-entrance exam required by most colleges for acceptance. He was hoping for a 34 or 35. That's why he was elated when he recently found out his score -- a perfect 36.

Now Kubica can almost hear the doors opening to attend some of his dream schools -- an Ivy League school or MIT. The nice thing for Kubica is that he still has two years to think about it; he has just started his junior year of high school.

Ogden film student answers the question 'What does freedom mean to me?' with "Even Handed"

"Why do you care?"

The question was asked of Ogden High School senior Samantha Highsmith at school one day. She had a sticker on her notebook for the Human Rights Campaign, an organization that fights for gay and transgender rights.

A classmate asked Highsmith what the sticker was, and she told him about the campaign.

"His reaction really caught me off-guard," Highsmith said. "Basically, he asked me why I care if I am not gay. Why do I care personally?

"I thought, well, that's a good question. I just couldn't verbalize why.
