Syracuse considers adding full-time deputy fire chief

SYRACUSE — City officials hope to add a new full-time position to the fire department during the budget process for the coming fiscal year.

The city council recently voted to amend the city’s wage scale by reclassifying the position of deputy fire chief as a full-time position.

FARMINGTON -- Paul Hayward has been named as the city's new part-time fire marshal, replacing Steven Cox, who died earlier this year.

Hayward took the oath of office Tuesday to assume the new post, in which he will be in charge of working with the business community, among other responsibilities.

NORTH SALT LAKE -- Services for South Davis Metro Fire Agency Fire Marshal Steve Cox are set for Friday.

The 22-year firefighting veteran will be laid to rest following services that begin at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful-Woods Cross LDS Regional Center, 835 N. 400 East, North Salt Lake. Burial will be in Bountiful Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 West, Bountiful.

BOUNTIFUL -- The South Davis Metro Fire Agency has announced the death of Fire Marshal Steve Cox, a 22-year firefighting veteran.

Agency Chief Jim Rampton called the death a "huge loss."

Officials say the death is the agency's first in the line of duty.
