Three families displaced by Thursday morning fire in Ogden

OGDEN -- Three families have been displaced after a fire gutted a mobile home and damaged the house beside it.

Chad Tucker, deputy chief of the Ogden Fire Department, said the blaze started just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday in a motor home parked in the driveway of a home on the 1200 block of Sheridan Drive.

He said cause of the fire is under investigation, but authorities believe it was electrical.

The damage to the motor home and house was estimated at about $20,000.

When firefighters arrived, Tucker said, flames and heavy smoke were visible.

The flames jumped from the motor home to the brick rambler, also damaging power lines and parts of the house.

A neighbor who did not want to be named said he saw smoke from his window, so he went outside.

"People were carrying kids out of the house," he said.

Amy Hansen, executive director for the American Red Cross, said the agency assisted three families who are now homeless because of the fire.

Five people, four of them children, were living in the motor home while the family was between residences, Tucker said.

No one was in the motor home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured.

Hansen said the house is not habitable because of the fire damage, so the Red Cross is providing housing, food and clothing allowances to the family members for at least four days.

She said she was not sure how many people were living in the home.

"Two families were living in the house, but we're still confirming the number of people living in the house."

Eighteen firefighters from Ogden and North View Fire districts responded to the fire.

Two propane tanks on the back of the motor home caused concern initially, but Tucker said they didn't have any problems.

"We did not have it explode or have any problems with the tanks."

OGDEN -- Five people are now homeless after a motor home they were living in caught fire Thursday morning.

Chad Tucker, deputy chief of Ogden Fire Department, said the blaze began just after 9:30 a.m. in a motor home parked in a driveway of a home on the 1200 block of Sheridan Drive. He said they believe the fire was started by an electrical problem in the motor home.

Tucker said there was nearly $20,000 worth of damage to the motor home and the house. The fire gutted the motor home, and also spread to part of the home, damaging power lines.

Tucker said the Red Cross is helping the five who were displaced by the fire. He said they were living in the home because they were in between apartments, and needed a place to stay for a few weeks before moving into their new home.

No one was in the motor home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured.
