Man dies in Clearfield mobile home fire

CLEARFIELD -- An adult male died Thursday after being found unconscious in a burning mobile home, according to a news release from the Clearfield Police Department.

Crews from North Davis Fire District responded to the fire at 1285 W. 1200 North #157 around 8 p.m. and pronounced the man dead after they rushed him out of the structure. They found him inside the mobile home after extinguishing the flames. The man was transported by ambulance to a nearby softball field at Steed Park with the plan to continue transporting him by helicopter to a local hospital; however, the victim was pronounced dead before being transferred to the waiting helicopter.

The victim is now in the hands of the State Medical Examiner's Office, which will determine the cause of death and also positive identification.

No other occupants were in the residence at the time of the fire and, according to the fire department, damage to the mobile home was extensive and it is likely a total loss.

In a joint investigation, North Davis Fire District, Clearfield Police Department, and the State Fire Marshals are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
