LAYTON -- With years of revenue losses in the U.S. economy, small and large counties across the country appear to be settling into a "new normal" of revenue, staffing and service delivery, according to a recent national survey.

"Coping with the New Normal: An Economic Status Survey of Counties" is the seventh survey in a series of biannual surveys conducted by the National Association of Counties to capture information about counties struggling with the current fiscal situation.

LAYTON -- The annual Kendall O. Bryant Fire Prevention Awareness Day Open House will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Layton City Fire Station 51, 530 N. 2200 W.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake County officials are asking state attorneys to help recover more than $50,000 from the Army for costs of fighting a 2010 wildfire caused by a live-fire training exercise.

HARRISVILLE — A woman lost a storage shed and all its contents in a fire Saturday afternoon.

BOUNTIFUL -- Four helicopters flew low Friday over the Bountiful City Cemetery in honor of South Davis Metro Fire Agency Fire Marshall Steve Cox, who died Sunday at age 55 after becoming ill during an Aug. 26 training exercise.

FORT RANCH -- Firefighters contained a lightning-sparked wildfire in Box Elder County that spread to more than an estimated 5,000 acres by Thursday evening.

NORTH OGDEN -- Firefighters from six agencies were fighting a Saturday night blaze in hills east of North Ogden.
