Fires burn dozens of homes in Texas, Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY — Wildfires fueled by extremely dry conditions and strong winds destroyed dozens of homes in Oklahoma City and North Texas on Tuesday and forced hundreds of residents to evacuate.

Lightning sparks 22 fires in Box Elder County

BRIGHAM CITY -- If 22 lightning-caused fires in Box Elder County over the weekend are any indication of things to come, it's going to be a long fire season.

Firefighters battle stubborn hillside fire

OGDEN -- Firefighters from Weber County, Ogden city and the U.S. Forest Service worked Saturday to extinguish a grass fire that began Friday morning when lightning struck the mountain about a mile above 300 South and Douglas Street.

Promontory fire burns half-acre

PROMONTORY POINT -- A wildfire burned a half-acre of Promonotory Point, at the southern end of the Promontory Mountains, on Monday.

Dispatchers got a call at 2:30 p.m. that a likely lightning-caused wildfire was burning halfway up the mountain at its southernmost edge. The smoke was visible from Antelope Island.

Instead, her family was in 2nd District Court on Monday at a hearing for Mark Anthony Ott, 47, who pleaded guilty March 16, 2004, to aggravated murder.
