Fly-fishing film set for Peery's Egyptian Theater

OGDEN -- The Fly Fishing Film Tour, also known as F3T, will come to Ogden for the third consecutive year.

The year’s film will feature fly-fishing in areas close to cities and even within the urban areas themselves.

“We approached this year with the attitude that adventure is what you make it and sometimes the greatest adventures can be found in your own backyard or an urban corridor,” said F3T co-owner Chris Keig.

Lawmakers backing off waterways access bill

SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. Dixon Pitcher, R-Ogden, will not push legislation this session to address access to public waterways after he and another state lawmaker met with one member of the House leadership team to discuss the bill.

Pitcher said he and Rep. Kay McIff, R-Richfield, both agreed to back off legislation, potentially impacting the access of fisherman to public waters after meeting with Majority Whip Rep. Greg Hughes, R-Draper.

Ice doesn't stop carp removal project at Utah Lake

Carp are a common sight in many Utah lakes and waterways, and in most cases, aren’t considered a major threat to the other fish species in those waters.

That’s not the case in Utah Lake west of Provo, where an exploding population of the large fish has taken over and been threatening an endangered species for decades.

Bassmaster Classic to boost Southwest region's economy

TULSA, Okla. — The surprise of the Bassmaster Classic, to those who never have seen it, comes purely in the scope of the event.

“Big” won’t fully describe what is set for Tulsa and Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees on Friday-Sunday.

Fishermen worry about bill's impact on access to Weber River

SALT LAKE CITY — Sean Dickey loves to fly-fish on the Weber River and worries access to the waterway will be threatened if a bill before the Legislature moves forward.

Dickey joined a group of about 200 other fishermen Friday morning on the steps of the Capitol to protest the potential implications of HB 68, sponsored by Rep. Kay McIff, R-Richfield. The bill would declare certain water rights are protected by the Utah Constitution.

Court battle rages over $910,000 fishing prize

RALEIGH, N.C. -- About four hours after the fishing charter boat Citation left dock on the Outer Banks to compete in one of the country's richest deep-sea fishing tournaments, crewmembers were in the fight of their lives. Something huge was hooked, but it was invisible to human sight as it dove for the ocean bottom about 27 miles off the North Carolina coast.

Utah and Wyoming wildlife agencies have come up with a fun way to get rid of unwanted fish in the Flaming Gorge Reservoir. On Feb. 1-3, 2013, they'll host the third annual "Burbot Bash" fishing competition that gives anglers a chance to win up to $10,000 by catching burbots out of the reservoir. The fish was illegally introduced into the reservoir in 2006 and have exploded in population since.
