Suspect in Riverdale check fraud case arrested

RIVERDALE — After disappearing for a few days, a suspect in a check-passing case was found Saturday in the bed of a pickup truck.

Riverdale police arrested Joshua Michael Beckstead, 31, on suspicion of forging checks in Riverdale and surrounding cities, said Riverdale Police Lt. James Ebert.

RIVERDALE -- Quinton Jones, 37, was charged Wednesday with forging a check and resisting arrest.

Jones cashed a fake check at Cash America on Dec. 21 for $728.81, according to a probable cause statement filed in 2nd District Court.

Weber deputies' ruse nabs man wanted for forgery

OGDEN -- A simple ruse lured a wanted fugitive out into the open Saturday.

A warrant was issued June 28 for Eric E. Metelman, 52, for money laundering and more than a dozen forgery charges, Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther said.

Audiotape documents Mormon forger, Hofmann at work

SALT LAKE CITY — Decades after Mark Hofmann pleaded guilty to murder and the Mormom documents he had pitched as historic were exposed as forgeries, an audiotape has surfaced that gives a glimpse of the swindler at work.

The 1981 recording details Hofmann’s attempt to negotiate or trade for a supposed original copy of a blessing written by Mormon church founder Joseph Smith Jr. to leaders of what was then known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Missouri.
