Veteran of 34 felony cases enters three more guilty pleas Monday

CENTERVILLE — A 41-year-old woman who has multiple cases in 2nd District Court entered guilty pleas in her first court appearance since her arrest April 7.

Julia Herzog, also known as Julia Amelia Higbee, entered the guilty pleas Monday to three of the cases and agreed to pay restitution in the fourth case.

Judge John R. Morris set June 4 for sentencing hearings for those three cases, as well as three other cases.

Woman accused of oxycodone, methadone prescription forgery in Roy

ROY -- A woman suspected of forging eight prescriptions was arrested after police say she evaded them.

Jamie Solis, 29, picked up six prescriptions of oxycodone and methadone from a Roy Walgreens in November and December, according to an affidavit for a warrant for her arrest.

Suspect in Riverdale check fraud case arrested

RIVERDALE — After disappearing for a few days, a suspect in a check-passing case was found Saturday in the bed of a pickup truck.

Riverdale police arrested Joshua Michael Beckstead, 31, on suspicion of forging checks in Riverdale and surrounding cities, said Riverdale Police Lt. James Ebert.

Layton pair busted with drugs, forged documents

FARMINGTON — Two Layton residents are facing multiple felony charges after Davis Metro Narcotics Strike Force officials say they found illegal drugs and numerous fake identification cards in the couple’s home.

Danielle Rae Kennington, 27, and Alec Jason Thomas, 32, appeared Friday in 2nd District Court.

Kennington is charged with three first-degree felony counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute; 10 third-degree felony counts of forgery; and one class A misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Prosecutors have charged a consignment shop owner with forging documents to steal $1 million in property, including Olympic memorabilia, from a high-profile booster of Utah's 2002 Winter Olympics.

Local law enforcement agencies saw a disturbing trend in 2011 of out-of-state crews coming into the area to sell illegal drugs, everything from marijuana and methamphetamine to illegal prescriptions, cocaine and heroin.

Weber deputies' ruse nabs man wanted for forgery

OGDEN -- A simple ruse lured a wanted fugitive out into the open Saturday.

CHICAGO -- International art dealer Michael Zabrin pushed the thick black glasses up his nose and fidgeted, the shackles on his ankles clanking in the quiet courtroom.

At a hearing last week, he stood to take his punishment from a federal judge, again.

A chronic, twice-convicted confidence man -- his lawyer says he lacks impulse control -- Zabrin spent decades maneuvering through the exclusive world of high-end art, peddling works by celebrated artists like Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro.

8 arrested for DVD, CD piracy

SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah strike force that targets crimes by undocumented immigrants has made what they are calling the biggest bust of pirated movies and music in state history.

Agents arrested six people in Ogden on Thursday morning in connection to pirating movies and music. The next day, they arrested two more people they suspect are connected to distributing pirated media out of a Salt Lake City produce warehouse.

Ex-clerk in tiny Utah town faces federal charges

SALT LAKE CITY -- Federal prosecutors are accusing a former city clerk in a small Utah town of stealing from city coffers.

Angela Betty Curry was charged with mail fraud Tuesday for allegedly forging more than 100 Tabiona city checks and depositing the money into her own bank account.

Prosecutors say the 36-year-old Curry also manipulated the books in the Duchesne County town to cover the payments.

Curry is scheduled to appear Jan. 18 before U.S.
