Dog causes crash that shuts down freeway

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A dog running into traffic on a busy New Mexico freeway caused a chain reaction that led to a fiery crash involving a semi full of frozen meat that shut down part of the road and backed up traffic for nearly four hours, authorities said.

Cause sought for deadly highway pileup

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Authorities in Florida were trying to determine Monday what caused the horrific pileup on Interstate 75 south of Gainesville, where a long line of cars and trucks collided one after another on a dark highway so shrouded in haze and smoke that drivers were blinded.

Tanker fire turns freeway into 'Carmageddon'

MONTEBELLO, Calif. -- For the second time in a year, Southern California motorists faced a freeway "Carmageddon." Butas the evening commute loomed Thursday there was some good news: A 10-mile stretch of road closed by a gasoline tanker fire could reopen within a day.
