Police shoot, kill suspected quarry shooter

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- The man suspected of opening fire at a Northern California limestone quarry, killing three co-workers and injuring six has been shot by authorities in a Silicon Valley neighborhood.

(The Associated Press) This arrest photo taken Feb. 15, 1963 and provided by the New Jersey Department of Corrections shows George Wright while in custody for the 1962 murder of a gas station owner in Wall, N.J. Wright was arrested Sept. 26, 2011, by Portuguese authorities at the request of the U.S. government after more than 40 years as a fugitive, authorities said Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011. The FBI says Wright, who escaped the Bayside State Prison in Leesburg, N.J., in 1970, became affiliated with the Black Liberation Army and in 1972 he and his associates hijacked a Delta flight from Detroit to Miami. After releasing the passengers in exchange for a $1 million ransom, the hijackers forced the plane to fly to Boston, then on to Algeria.

Longtime fugitive US hijacker caught in Portugal

Longtime fugitive nabbed by FBI close to home

SALIDA, Calif. -- A fugitive from the FBI who led investigators to Chicago, Alaska and Canada apparently spent the last 24 years living less than 90 miles from the scene of the California robbery and murder that sent him to prison in the first place. And he might have gone undiscovered if his mother hadn't tried to reach him as she neared death in 2005.

Agents on Friday arrested William Walter Asher III, 66, outside his Salida home. Asher had been living under the name Garry Donald Webb and worked for a truck service company in Lodi.

Ogden police search for suspects who fled

OGDEN -- Police were searching Ogden on Tuesday night for a male and female they believe ran from police after a short chase.

When an officer tried to pull over a white Isuzu Rodeo at 24th Street and Jefferson Avenue, it took off, said Ogden Police Lt. Tony Fox.

The officer chased the Rodeo before it almost crashed into a house near 29th Street and Adams Avenue about 10:20 p.m.

Feds: 38 guns found at mob fugitive's Idaho home

BOISE, Idaho -- Federal agents caught up with a fugitive wanted for trying to kill a New England mob boss more than a decade ago, arresting him at his rural Idaho home where they seized dozens of guns and $15,000, authorities said Wednesday.

Dressed in a yellow jumpsuit and with his hands cuffed behind his back, the man sat at a table in a federal courtroom in Boise and spoke calmly to the judge.

"My name is Enrico M. Ponzo," he said.

After the judge read a long list of charges against him, Ponzo replied: "Not guilty, your honor."

Ponzo, 42, appeared relaxed during his 40-minute court appearance, at times smiling at a handful of friends nearby and exchanging laughs with his attorney.
