OGDEN — The public is invited to a Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. Friday at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Nursing Home, 1102 N. 1200 West.

Veterans benefit meeting today in Ogden

OGDEN -- An information meeting for veterans will be held at 4 p.m. today at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home, 1102 N. 1200 West.

The meeting will include discussion on how to get compensation for service-related disabilities, veterans pension, dependency indemnity compensation, widow's death pension and burial benefits.

Recruits sing and party with vet home residents

OGDEN -- Marine recruits visited and sang with the veterans residing at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home on Saturday.

Veterans benefits adviser to visit Wahlen home

OGDEN -- Ken Parker from The American Legion in Salt Lake City will be in this area to assist individual veterans in applying for VA benefits including compensation, pension, hospitalization, education, and other benefits. This is a free service to all veterans.

Parker will be at the Wahlen Veterans Home at 1101 N. 1200 West from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 4. Vets are asked to bring the following documents so that he may better serve you: DD form 214, marriage/divorce papers, birth/adoption/death certificates, and children's Social Security numbers.

Dinner, dance fundraiser set for vets home

OGDEN -- VFW Post 1481 Veterans and Auxiliary will present their "Share Your Holidays With A Veteran" program at 6 p.m., Saturday. The public is invited.

Massage therapists offer hands-on thank you to veterans

OGDEN -- Using the power of touch, a group of local college students brought comfort and relaxation to Top of Utah veterans.

Students from the massage program at Broadview University in Layton paid a visit Saturday to the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home.

Purple Heart recipients to be honored at markers' Ogden unveiling

OGDEN -- Two new monuments bearing the names of nearly 200 Purple Heart recipients were installed Monday at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home and will be unveiled Friday.

Vet's home to honor Utah Purple Hearts

OGDEN -- The George E. Wahlen Veterans Nursing Home will hold a double ceremony on Nov. 11, commemorating Veterans Day and honoring Utah recipients of the Purple Heart.

The nursing home's ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 11. Wahlquist Junior High School will provide music. Guest speaker is Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, and there will be a flag retirement ceremony by the Ogden VFW Post 1481.

Run, chili cookoff to benefit veterans

The George E. Wahlen Veterans Home fun run and chili cook-off is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. Oct 8.

Participants can choose to run a 5K or walk a mile, which will begin at the veterans home at 1000 N. 1200 West and end in the First United Methodist Church parking lot. All proceeds go to the George E. Wahlen Veteran’s Home.

Participants may register online at active.com or by visiting www.fumcogdenut.org. After the race the church will hold its Fall Festival and Chili Cook-off at the church parking lot.
