Girls basketball: Titans cap perfect season with state title

TAYLORSVILLE -- After a one-year hiatus, Titan Mania is back with a vengeance.

Four-time defending Region 1 champion Syracuse High proved you can beat the same team three times in a season, while reclaiming its perch atop state 5-A girls basketball hierarchy.

Dominating league foe Weber in the paint and on fast-break points, the Titans wrapped up their second undefeated season in three years Saturday with a 63-50 victory in the 5-A championship game at Salt Lake Community College.

Prep basketball: Morgan girls wrap up fifth place

ST. GEORGE -- Despite not winning a state championship, the Morgan girls basketball team concluded their season on a high note.

Senior center Kelsey Henry scored a game-high 17 points, while sophomores Rashel Blazzard and McKenzie Schenk scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the Trojans rolled to a 54-40 win over Region 10 champion Juan Diego on Saturday at Dixie High School. The win gives the Trojans fifth place in the 3-A tournament -- a significant improvement after going two-and-out in last season's tourney.

Unbeaten Syracuse Titans top Weber for state 5-A girls basketball crown

TAYLORSVILLE -- With a second-half effort worthy of a championship team, the Syracuse High Titans won the state 5-A girls basketball championship Saturday with a 63-50 victory over Region 1 rival Weber at Salt Lake Community College's Bruin Arena.

Morgan girls struggled in 3-A quarters

ST. GEORGE - In a stunning conclusion to the quarterfinal round of the state 3-A tournament, the Morgan Trojans' girls' basketball team was KO'd by a taller, more aggressive team from Desert Hills, 46-29, late Thursday night.

TAYLORSVILLE -- The Bonneville Lakers got off to a rousing start in the opening round of the state 4-A girls basketball tournament at Salt Lake Community's College's Lifetime Activities Center.

Girls basketball: Davis darts into 5-A playoffs

KAYSVILLE -- In a battle of serious basketball runs, the Darts had the last big surge.

Davis High's girls basketball team outscored Fremont 16-10 in the final quarter Thursday afternoon to post a 51-46 victory in the teams' Region 1 play-in game.

The victory gives the Darts a spot in the state 5-A tournament, which begins Tuesday at Salt Lake Community College. Davis and Alta will play at 12:50 p.m.
