Daughter accepts late mother's college diploma with pride

OGDEN -- Whitnie Dutt took the final step that her mother could not. The 13-year-old stood in at the Stevens-Henager College graduation ceremony Thursday night to accept her mother's diploma.

Graduation season keeps Dee Events Center hopping

OGDEN -- Dee Schenck stood sentry Monday at Dee Events Center, smiling at Bonneville High School seniors in their caps and gowns, greeting proud parents and extended families, and keeping a keen eye out for unwelcome intruders.

LAYTON -- Already a graduate from the school of hard knocks, 27-year-old Kirk Green, who is a quadriplegic, expanded his education by capturing a bachelor of science degree in business/accounting from the University of Phoenix in Salt Lake City.

OGDEN -- The mortarboard caps didn't add any real height, but somehow, members of Weber State University's 2011 graduating class seemed to stand 10 feet tall.

More than 3,600 graduate from WSU

OGDEN -- Former Utah Gov. Michael O. Leavitt on Friday gave the commencement speech at the 137th Weber State University commencement.

Leavitt, who was awarded an honorary doctorate of humanities, congratulated students on their achievement, and told them their future would be determined by the decisions they make.

"We all make life-changing decisions, and these decisions, more than our circumstances, change our life," Leavitt said.
