SALT LAKE CITY -- A bill aimed at making it illegal to possess any instrument, tool or device with the intent of vandalizing an area with graffiti has failed in the Senate.

Kenneth Nereim, 27, at Ogden High School was found by an Ogden police officer next to a fresh graffiti-tagged wall and holding a can of spray paint around 3 a.m. Saturday, according to a post on the police department's Facebook page.

ROY — Roy High School went on lockdown Thursday morning after officials discovered threats scrawled across walls and stalls in two girls’ bathrooms.

OGDEN -- A mural celebrating Ogden's growing stature as a sports activities center is being painted on the side of a parking structure at 23rd Street and Washington Boulevard.

Roy Jr. High graffiti contains threats of 'bloodbath'

ROY -- Police are investigating spray-painted graffiti at Roy Junior High School as a potential hate crime, Police Chief Greg Whinham said Tuesday.

Somebody sneaked onto the grounds of the school, at 5400 S. 2100 West, early Tuesday and painted messages on the building and other items.

"The nature of the graffiti is such that it qualifies as hate speech, and we are investigating the possibility of charging the person with a hate crime," Whinham said. "Some of the messages alluded to doing harm to Christians."

Roy school graffiti included 'veiled threats'

ROY -- Vandals snuck onto the grounds of Roy Junior High School early Tuesday and spray painted messages on the building and other items.

By midmorning, crews from Weber County School District had cleaned almost all traces of the paint from trees, windows, brick walls and benches.

Weber School District spokesman Nate Taggart said the graffiti did not appear to be gang-related, but before it was cleaned up school resource officers from the Roy City Police Department took down information to compare it to other graffiti.

Box Elder grafitti takes on Nazi theme

BRIGHAM CITY -- In his 25 years working law enforcement, Box Elder County Sheriff's Sgt. David Murphy had never heard of Nazi-related vandalism in his area -- until now.

On Wednesday evening, a complainant found a swastika and the word "Jew" painted in black on a traffic sign near 1500 North and 800 West. There was also the number 12 and a line painted on a stop sign at the railroad tracks nearby.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Volunteers have removed graffiti from a vandalized playground at a school for deaf and blind students.

Preteens blamed for extensive vandalism in West Point

WEST POINT -- The homes in the cul-de-sac now show no visible signs of the vandalism that occurred early Saturday morning.

"We get reports of toilet papering with no damage all the time," said Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. Susan Poulsen. "But something of this magnitude is rare. The kids involved caused so much damage, and they were so young."

OGDEN -- As the temperatures rise, graffiti is becoming a bigger presence in parks around Weber County.

Ogden stabbing suspect faces slew of charges

OGDEN -- The man charged with stabbing another man who tried to interrupt his graffiti work also lost his patience with his arresting officers, police say.

In all, John Edward Gallegos, 20, faces a total of eight counts, from attempted murder to defacing public property, all stemming from his arrest last month.

Gallegos is accused of stabbing a 40-year-old man four times after the man confronted Gallegos and several friends as they were spray-painting graffiti on the restrooms at Lester Park, at 24th Street and Jefferson Avenue, on April 16.

Violent weekend for gangs in Ogden

OGDEN -- It was a busy weekend for the Ogden Metro Gang Unit, with two shootings and one stabbing reported within a 24-hour period.

In both shootings, children narrowly escaped injury from bullets that struck houses.

Police Lt. Scott Conley said the crimes were unrelated to each other and were committed by members of gangs other than Ogden Trece.
