OGDEN — Emmett Till was newly 14, with hazel eyes and sandy hair, his cousin recalled 55 years later. Simeon Wright remembers his cousin Emmett as a fun kid, prone to stuttering, who loved telling jokes and liked comic George Gobel.

ACLU speaker: Courts key to freedom of religion, expression

OGDEN — Americans treasure their freedom of speech and freedom of religion, along with the ability to deny both to people they don’t like.

So Dan Mach, director of Freedom of Religion for the American Civil Liberties Union, told an audience at Weber State University on Wednesday.

Local author will share tricks for research

BRIGHAM CITY — A Utah author will speak in Brigham City about the research tricks he has learned from researching the West.

Michael Zimmer, who has published eight novels, will speak 7 p.m. March 20 at Brigham City Library, 26 E. Forest St.

Zimmer will cover a wide range of topics, such as starting a fire with flint and steel and common misconceptions about Old West firearms, with an emphasis on avoiding familiar movie stereotypes.

The author will sign books immediately after the event.

Women’s history talk today at WSU

OGDEN — Weber State University will host a women’s history lecture from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. today in the Hetzel-Hoellein Room of the Stewart Library.

Pastor Vic to speak in Brigham City

BRIGHAM CITY — This Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. worship service of Rocky Mountain Bible Church, 659 N. Main St., the guest speaker will be Pastor Vic Ransom.

Pastor Vic was born in Kansas and grew up in Northern Utah, according to a news release.

After graduating from high school, he joined the Army in 1972, and was stationed at Fort Myer, Va., where he attended Barcroft Bible Church.
