Collectors gather at gun association show in Ogden

OGDEN — Walking in the door at this weekend’s gun show at the Weber County Fairgrounds one of the first things to greet the eye is a 4-foot-by-8-foot sign with the words “Killing Lincoln.”

Sellers defend gun show loophole

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — When gun control advocates talk about closing the “gun show loophole,” it’s a 70-year-old retiree named Norm from Henderson they want to stop.

Norm, who declined to give his full name for fear of getting robbed if it were published, was among the hundreds of private sellers who crowded into the Las Vegas Sports Center on Saturday to exchange guns for cash -- no background check needed.

Demand, emotions run high at Wyo. gun show

CASPER, Wyo. -- Sam Fletcher started a custom firearm dealership in 2007, after graduating with a Ph.D. in biotechnology and coming up empty in Wyoming’s job market. Six years later, he’s thinking it may be time to reconsider the company as a hobby rather than a cash cow.

'Mother of all gun shows' held in Vegas

LAS VEGAS _The tens of thousands of gun enthusiasts, sellers and manufacturers gathering here for the world’s largest firearms show are well aware of the political battle unfolding in Washington over tighter controls on assault-style rifles and high-capacity magazines. They are neither worried nor reassured.

Many sticking to their guns, right to bear arms at Ogden event

OGDEN — Antique firearms lined tables, and concerns over infringement of Second Amendment rights were on the minds of many sellers and buyers at Saturday’s Utah Gun Collectors Association show at the Weber County Fairgrounds.

Roy resident Dave Baker walked around an exhibit hall with a “for sale” sign attached to the end of the barrel of his Ruger Mini-14 rifle. He said President Barack Obama’s gun-control efforts are making firearms a hot commodity.

“When you’ve got Democrats taking over our government, sales go up,” he said. “Democrats are the best gun salesmen.”

Large turnout expected at gun show in Ogden in response to control talk

OGDEN — Utah Gun Collectors Association officials expect a larger-than-normal crowd at its antique gun show Saturday, but said the crowd won’t be near the size of the one that attended the gun show at South Towne Expo Center.

Some gun shows cancelling in wake of added scrutiny

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Four gun shows, all about an hour's drive from Newtown, Conn., all canceled.

A show in White Plains, N.Y., - brought back a few years ago after being called off for a decade because of the Columbine shooting - is off because officials decided it didn't seem appropriate now, either. In Danbury, Conn. - about 10 miles west of Newtown - the venue backed out. Same with three other shows in New York's Hudson Valley, according to the organizer.
