HILL AIR FORCE BASE -- Emergency responders have accounted for all munitions and external fuel tanks that were jettisoned by an F-16 jet during an in-flight emergency Thursday afternoon.
The tanks and munitions were accounted for Thursday night in a remote, uninhabited area on the northwest side of the base. Hill explosive ordnance experts are assessing the best method to recover the munitions.
"The pilot followed emergency procedures and ensured that the munitions and fuel tanks were jettisoned into a remote area on the base," said Col. Scott Zobrist, 388th Fighter Wing commander. "We train for this type of emergency every day, and his actions ensured the safety of the local community and the base."
The incident caused a power outage on the base, but power has since been restored to the majority of the base.
Base gates have resumed normal operations.
The Air Force will investigate the cause of the incident.
