LAYTON -- Muggles will be out late Thursday night, with several of them dressed as wizards and witches.

Harry Potter just arrived in Florida -- not via broomstick or Floo powder, but by a mystery technology that sweeps fans along on a life-and-death adventure in the realm of young wizards.

Potter's 'Half-Blood Prince' a pleasant surprise

As a big fan of the Harry Potter books, I must admit I had pretty low expectations for the sixth movie, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." Especially after being disappointed by the fifth movie's inability to resemble the book or smoothly further the plot, I had little hope that this more significant and lengthy part of the story would be any better.
But I am happy to say that this movie completely took me by surprise and was extremely enjoyable.
This book is where the story of Potter and his Hogwarts' friends really picks up. All the previous books and movies have their own plots and their own endings even though they are all connected as Harry's story. However, I have always thought of the sixth book as simply an introduction to the seventh. Voldemort isn't even in the sixth book and there is no real resolution. I think J.K. Rowling, as well as the producers of the movie, deserve praise for making this interlude so exciting nonetheless.

OUR VIEW: 'Potter' takes on vampires

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" opens in theaters today. Although author J.K. Rowling wrapped up the series almost two years ago, it's been a very long film wait between No. 5 "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and No. 6 "the Half-Blood Prince."
Perhaps Harry Potter's long cinema hiatus is because the boy wizard is battling an otherworldly creature even more ferocious than death eaters or even Lord Voldermort -- teenage vampires.
It's no secret that Stephenie Meyer's smoldering tales of chaste lust between a teenage vampire boy and virginal human girl have drawn in millions of youngsters entering the teen years who spent their earlier years with Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hogwarts may be a fascinating place for readers to hang out, but Twilight has almost steamy scenes of heroes Edward Cullen and Bella Swan making out on Bella's bed while clueless dad sleeps away in another part of the house.
