OGDEN — A small quantity of non-toxic plaster discovered on a desk forced a 90-minute evacuation Thursday of Weber State University’s Engineering and Technology Building.

Quick work confines fuel spill at Freeport Center

CLEARFIELD — The quick thinking and actions of a Lifetime Products Inc., employee stopped about 50 gallons of diesel fuel from entering into the storm drain, firefighters say.

“Major kudos to Brett Gardiner,” said North Davis Metro Fire Capt. Chris Tremea.

Gardiner witnessed a semitrailer run over some pipes on the north side of Building F-11 at the Freeport Center on Monday morning.

NSL road closed, worker treated after fluoride reaction creates toxic fumes

State awaits Hill's response to report on mercury spill

HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Even though a mercury spill went unreported and was improperly cleaned up, with the remaining liquid stored improperly, the public was not in danger, officials say.

Scott Anderson, director of Utah’s Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste, said that after his department conducted compliance inspections at Hill Air Force Base in September and October, it was clear the mercury posed no threat to those on base, nor to residents nearby.

BREMERTON, Wash -- A hazardous-materials team and bomb squad were called Sunday morning to the parking lot of a church in the East Bremerton, Wash., area, where a man's body was found in a pickup along with a sign on the driver's window warning people to steer clear of the vehicle because of a deadly gas.
