WASHINGTON TERRACE -- Midtown Community Health Center has a new pediatric clinic to serve its littlest low-income and uninsured patients.
The clinic, at 5285 S. 400 East, Suite A, in Washington Terrace, has experienced tremendous patient growth during the past three years, said Lisa Nichols, executive director of Midtown Community Health Center. The new clinic will provide more convenience for patients living farther south of the main office in Ogden.
The center received a $1.1 million stimulus grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.
In addition to the pediatric clinic, the money will be used to consolidate two Davis County dental clinics into a single operation at 22 S. State St. in Clearfield, said Nichols.
The pediatric and dental clinics will provide an economic boost by offering affordable health care to low-income families, she said.
Nichols said more than 4,300 children are served annually at Midtown, and said an estimated 14,500 uninsured kids live in areas served by Midtown.
"Midtown's patient population has increased from 15,000 in 2006 to over 26,000 currently," Nichols said. "We currently provide care to 10,844 uninsured children, leaving 3,646 without care. Patients are turned away daily because resources do not meet the demand."
The new clinic will be staffed by three pediatricians: Dr. Margaret Kluthe, Dr. Haydee Blanca and Dr. Patience Owan. Care is provided on a sliding fee scale according to income and family size, Nichols said.
The new clinic has nine exam rooms.
The clinic will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday To make an appointment, call (801) 475-7007.
