Hundreds possibly exposed to measles in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY  — The Utah Department of Health says hundreds who attended two recent community events may have been exposed to measles.

Officials say those who attended a presentation by author Nicholas Kristof at the Salt Lake Community College South City Campus on April 11 or the Entrepreneurial Challenge Final Awards Event at Rice Eccles Stadium on April 13 may have been exposed.

The outbreak began earlier this month with one student at Olympus High School in a Salt Lake City suburb. Since then, nine people have been infected with measles, including one person who attended the Kristof presentation.

The agency says anyone who attended either event should contact the Utah Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 in order to determine if they are properly vaccinated against the measles virus.
