Bad air forecast for today in Top of Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — Residents of the Top of Utah may want to stay inside today to get away from polluted air, if an expected high of 99 degrees is not enough discouragement.

The Utah Department of Environmental Quality issued a red air quality alert for Davis, Weber and Box Elder counties for today.

The red alert means that the amount of pollution in the atmosphere is unhealthy for children, the elderly and anyone with respiratory or heart disease. The department recommends that anyone who falls into one of those categories stay inside if possible and limit any heavy exertion outdoors.

The department also asks that people drive as little as possible today since cars contribute significantly to the local air pollution. More information on how to reduce air pollution can be found at www.cleanair.utah.gov.
