Turkish helicopter crashes in Afghanistan; 14 dead

KABUL, Afghanistan -- A Turkish military helicopter crashed into a house near the Afghan capital Friday, killing 12 Turkish soldiers on board and two girls on the ground, Turkish and Afghan officials said.

7 Marines killed in chopper collision

YUMA, Ariz. — Seven Marines were killed late Wednesday in a collision of two helicopters near Yuma, Ariz., during night training exercises, the Marine Corps said Thursday.

A helicopter crash in remote northwest Wyoming has killed one of the three people aboard who were trying to help a snowmobiler, and sheriff's officials say the snowmobiler also has died. The snowmobiler's party had called for help Wednesday. Teton County sheriff's officials say the helicopter had reached them but was leaving to get more help when it crashed on Togwotee  Pass. They say 63-year-old rescuer Ray Shriver was killed, and the pilot and another rescuer were taken to a hospital. Sheriff's officials say deputies reached the snowmobilers after tending to the helicopter victims, but 53-year-old Steven Anderson of Morris, Minn., also has died. Rescuer, snowmobiler killed when copter crashes

JACKSON, Wyo. -- Federal authorities on Thursday were investigating the crash of a search-and-rescue helicopter in northwest Wyoming that killed a volunteer crew member who was trying to help an injured snowmobiler who also died.

Crews to remove Nev. helicopter wreckage by air

LAS VEGAS -- Friends in India mourned the deaths of a honeymooning couple who were among five people killed in a sightseeing helicopter crash near Las Vegas, while U.S. crash investigators worked Monday to airlift large pieces of charred wreckage from the remote canyon where the aircraft went down.

A National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Peter Knudson in Washington, D.C., said pieces of the Aerospatiale AS-350BS would be taken to Phoenix for study by teams from the NTSB and the French accident investigation agency BEA. NTSB officials said BEA is involved because the aircraft was built in France.

5 bodies removed from Vegas tour crash site

LAS VEGAS -- Rescue crews completed the difficult process of recovering bodies Thursday from a remote canyon outside Las Vegas after the crash of a tour helicopter belonging to a company with repeated aviation violations.

Sundance Helicopters of Las Vegas had at least five accidents and was the subject of 10 federal enforcement actions since 1994. It charted a luxury sunset tour of the Las Vegas Strip and Hoover Dam on Wednesday that killed a 31-year-old pilot and his four passengers.

Remote location will complicate Nev. crash recovery, probe

LAS VEGAS -- The recovery of bodies and investigation into the crash of a Nevada tour helicopter that killed the pilot and four passengers will be complicated because of the remote canyon location near Lake Mead, an investigator said Thursday.

Thirty Americans -- 22 of them SEALS -- and eight Afghans were killed Saturday when a rocket-propelled grenade fired by a Taliban insurgent downed their Chinook helicopter en route to a combat mission. All but two of the SEALs were from SEAL Team 6, the unit that killed Osama bin Laden, although military officials said none of the crash victims was on that mission in Pakistan against the al-Qaida leader.

Military killed Taliban who downed US helicopter

WASHINGTON -- International forces killed the Taliban insurgents responsible for shooting down a U.S. helicopter and killing 38 U.S. and Afghan forces over the weekend, but they are still seeking the top insurgent leader they were going after in Saturday's mission, the top American commander in Afghanistan said Wednesday.
