Suspect in Box Elder chase arrested in Idaho

MALAD, Idaho -- A man suspected of evading police in a stolen vehicle in Box Elder County was arrested Wednesday morning in Idaho.

The owner of Village Inn Motel in Malad called the Oneida County Sheriff's Office after a man matching the suspect's description checked in at 3 a.m., said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry. A trucker had given him a ride to the motel.

Police say James Jerry Moncada caused this damage while fleeing police Thursday in Ogden. An officer believed he recognized the driver of an SUV and attempted to pull over the vehicle. However, the driver did not stop and drove south down an alley that runs from 28th Street to 29th Street, between Brinker Avenue and Harrison Boulevard. The SUV smashed through a fence about halfway down the alley, drove through the southeast corner of a backyard, smashed through a second wooden fence and wound up in the backyard of a home that is south of the first. BRIGHAM CITY -- Around 9 p.m. Sunday, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper saw a Mitsubishi driving erratically, heading south near the Interstates 15 and 84 merge.
