OGDEN — Police arrested Franklin Lucero, 41, after they say he fled from them in a stolen car Saturday.
A Mitsubishi Eclipse was stolen from the 4200 South block of Monroe Boulevard in South Ogden. Ten minutes later, shortly before 11 a.m., Ogden police saw Lucero driving the car north on Washington Boulevard, said Lt. Sean Hamblin.
Lucero turned right onto 17th Street and ignored the officer’s attempts to pull him over. He led officers on a short chase instead, one that ended at the corner of Canyon Road and Adams Avenue, Hamblin said.
“He lost control of the vehicle, driving into the front yard of a corner home and hit a green Chevrolet blazer parked in the driveway.”
Lucero tried to flee on foot, but police quickly apprehended him, Hamblin said.
When officers searched Lucero, they found a flashlight, a screwdriver and a serrated steak knife, Hamblin said.
Lucero was booked into Weber County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and evading arrest, both felonies. He was also booked for three misdemeanors: driving with an alcohol-revoked license, possession of a dangerous weapon and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police are still investigating the stolen vehicle case. He may be charged with that as well, which would be a felony, Hamblin said.
