Scouts, others invited to learn about Ten Commandments during Ogden hike

OGDEN — Ogden-area Boy Scouts and their families can get to know the Ten Commandments from a little different perspective Saturday morning, when the Boy Scouts of America Trapper Trails Council sponsors its second annual Ten Commandments Hike.

The event is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at the Salvation Army, 2615 Grant Ave.

Venture Academy students use mirrors to signal classmates below

OGDEN — It looked like Christmas lights blinking from the mountaintop, but it was actually students signalling the ones they left behind.

That’s the way some students at Venture Academy described their mirrors reflecting the sun from the tops of Mount Ben Lomond and Lewis Peak last week.

Nearly 170 students in Stacy Swapp’s physical education and outdoor adventure class participated in a hike and mirror-signaling activities that taught them about communication and the great outdoors.

Shauna Iverson, 52, of Harrisville injured her ankle on a hike on Indian Trail on Wednesday June 8, 2011. She was hiking with her husband when part of the steep trail gave way and she fell.
