AFCEA presents grant to Ogden High

Essye Miller, Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association, Wasatch Chapter president and director of Hill Air Force Base Communications Directorate, awarded Kurt Jensen, Career and Technical Education faculty member at Ogden High School, the AFCEA Wasatch Chapter Educational Foundation's Science Teaching Tools Grant worth $1,000, on March 4.

Ogden High School was the recipient of the AFCEA Wasatch Chapter Educational Foundation's Science Teaching Tools Grant Program for the 2009-2010 academic school year.

Town hall meeting April 12 by Boyer Hill Military Housing

Boyer Hill Military Housing representatives will be conducting a town hall meeting April 12, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Base Theater.

"In that meeting we will be talking about our construction updates," said Dawn Sousa, BHMH assistant property manager. The Year 5 and Year 6 plan will be reviewed as well and it will be an opportunity for questions and concerns to be presented by residents.

"It's an opportunity to get correct information," Sousa said.

Expanding careers

"When you come through the gate in the morning are you coming to advance your career or is it just your job?" asked Essye Miller, director of Hill Air Force Base Communications Directorate, as she spoke March 11 to a gathering.

Miller led this year's career broadening seminar as part of the Federal Women's Program's series of events held in honor of Federal Women's History Month.

419th Yellow Ribbon event launches program

Recently, about 100 reservists and family members were treated to a getaway at Cliff Lodge in Snowbird with free hotel, food and daycare courtesy of the Air Force Reserve Command.

The 419th Fighter Wing's first-ever Yellow Ribbon Reintegration event was part of a congressionally directed program that aims to combat the stresses of the deployment process by providing information, support and outreach services to reservists and their families.

Easter Egg Hunt and Fun Run to be April 3 at softball field

This year's Easter Egg Hunt and Fun Run will be April 3 at the base softball field.

The Youth Center will be hosting the egg hunt, which will take place at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Babies and children up to age 12 are encouraged to participate, and four age groups will have a chance to search out around 15,000 Easter eggs.

The 5k Fun Run begins at 9 a.m. and the Kids' 1 Mile will follow immediately after.

UFC Championship broadcast at Club Hill

Club Hill invites you to watch the UFC World Welterweight Championship and Interim Heavyweight Championship on Pay-Per-View on March 27.

The event is free and food and drink specials will begin at 6 p.m. and the UFC championships will be shown at 8 p.m. Members are able to reserve tables starting March 22.

Easter Brunch at Club Hill offered for holiday meal

Club Hill will be hosting this year's Easter Brunch on April 4 at 9 a.m. and again at 11 a.m. The cost per person is $17.95 for club members, $19.95 for non-members, $9.95 for ages 6-12, and ages 5 and younger eat for free.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling Club Hill at 777-3841.

Youth summer camp sign-ups under way

Enrollment for this year's Youth Center summer camp began March 8 for children already in the School Age Program. For children not already part of the SAP, registration begins Monday, March 22, at 9 a.m. The registration cost is $30 per child.

Parents who are new to the SAP must attend an orientation, and all other parents with participating children are encouraged to attend. The two orientation sessions take place on May 19 at 11:30 a.m. and again on May 21 at 4:30 p.m.

The Youth Center is also looking for teen volunteers for their summer camp program.

Bees to hold Military Family Night in season opener

The Salt Lake Bees will continue their long standing tradition of honoring the military during its season opener April 16 with a Military Family Night. Plans are under way to get tickets for military personnel and their families at the reduced price of $7 per person and more information will be published on where to get the tickets as game day approaches.

Veterans from all branches of the military will be recognized for their service in Iraq and Afghanistan. A re-enlistment and enlistment ceremony follow the game before the fireworks.

Volunteer nominations due by March 31

The Airman and Family Readiness Center is looking for nominations for this year's Volunteer Excellence Award. Nomination packages will be accepted for federal civilians, family members and retirees who performed outstanding volunteer work of a sustained and direct nature. Nominations are due by March 31.

The award will be presented at the Volunteer Recognition Breakfast held on April 19 at 8:30 a.m. at Club Hill. The breakfast is free for volunteers, their spouses and supervisors, leadership and co-workers, space permitting.

CCAF graduation ceremony planned for April 22

The Community College of the Air Force and the Hill Air Force Base Education Office will be holding the Spring 2010 CCAF Graduation Ceremony on April 22 at 1 p.m. in the Club Hill Ballroom.

The appropriate dress codes are: service dress (skirts for women) for graduates, uniform of the day for military and business attire for civilians.

Comptroller Mini PDI Institute on base March 25

Alvin Tucker, executive director of the American Society of Military Comptrollers will address the Utah Chapter on the future of financial management at their Mini Professional Development Institute on March 25 in Building 430. Luncheon speaker will be Utah State Treasurer Richard Ellis. Total cost of the training is $15 which includes lunch from Jason's Deli.

The Federal Women's History Month continues today, 9 a.m., with Platform Presentation by Frank Bernel and Gerry Anderson in Building 1279 Room 1.

Hill AFB Honor Guard takes duties seriously

The Honor Guard at Hill Air Force Base is the epitome of military precision. From the position of the thumbs to the speed of the marches and salutes, each move is perfectly timed and choreographed. On the uniforms, stripes and ribbons are the only individual variations. Tech. Sgt. Thomas Smith says the absence of nametags contributes to the group's cohesion as representatives of the U.S. military.

Smith heads up the Honor Guard at Hill Air Force Base. Of the 30-person staff, he's the only full-time member.

309th Maintenance Wing senior master sergeant gets Bronze Star

In recognition of his efforts during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Senior Master Sgt. Gary L. Meacham was presented the Bronze Star medal Feb. 24 by Brig. Gen. John Cooper, 309th Maintenance Wing commander.

Meacham received the award for meritorious achievement as squadron superintendent of the 52nd Expeditionary Flying Training Squadron, 321st Air Expeditionary Advisory Group, 321st Air Expeditionary Wing, Kirkuk Regional Air Base, Iraq, from August 2008 to July 2009.
