OO-ALC Yearly Award Winners honored at event

The Ogden Air Logistics Center award winners for 2009 were recognized March 4 at Club Hill as 46 award winners from each of the wings and directorates at Hill Air Force Base, received medallions as honored guests or representatives standing in for them. The keynote speaker at the ceremony was the Adjutant General, Utah National Guard, Maj. Gen. Brian Tarbet.

Those taking top honors at the OO-ALC level were given their awards by Maj. Gen. Andrew Busch, commander of the Ogden Air Logistics Center.

Federal Women's History Month events

The Federal Women's History Month continues today, 9 a.m., with Career Broadening in Building 1289 PK Conference Room with Essye Miller, 75th Communications Group director.

Master Lu will also lead tai chi in the Chapel Annex at noon.

  • Wednesday, March 16, at 9 a.m., Effective Leadership will be presented by Linda Larson in Building 1279 Room 1.
  • Thursday, March 17, 9 a.m., Writing Women Back into History will be in Building 1238 Education South with Adrienne Gillespie from Weber State University.

CALT gives leadership skills, military experience

Department of Defense civilians who have wondered what it would be like to live the military experience for a short time can now satisfy that curiosity through a new leadership program initiated recently by the Air Force chief of staff.

Western Extreme host: Enjoy hunting experience

The inside of Club Hill's ballroom was a sea of camo -- both hunting and military -- as hunting enthusiasts eagerly awaited the appearance of Jim Burnworth of "Western Extreme," Keith Mark of "MacMillan River Adventures" and Ray Bunney of "Adventures Abroad."

The symposium held Feb. 25 began with Burnworth, Mark and Bunney all sharing stories about their hunting experiences in North America and Africa. Ranging from a hippo hunt to a closeSClBencounter with a bull moose, the stories were far from tame.

Chaplain Cyr: Our turn on the watch

"We need to pray more than ever before," Chaplain (Brig. Gen.) David Cyr, the Air Force Deputy Chief of Chaplains, said during this year's National Prayer Breakfast at Hill Air Force Base. "If you think about the needs of our nation, our globe -- we as individuals, we need God's divine intervention in our lives."

As approximately 200 people gathered in Club Hill's ballroom on Feb. 24, Chaplain Cyr reminded them of all the challenges the U.S.

Vendors wanted for OSC Spring Bazaar

The Hill Officers' Spouses Club needs vendors for its annual spring craft bazaar April 21. Booth fee for the event is $40 which will directly support the club's scholarship program. No duplicates of nonhandcrafted items, such as Mary Kay and Tupperware, will be allowed.

On the day of the event, set up begins at 8 a.m. and must be completed by 9:30 a.m. Depending on availability, each vendor will receive a 6- or 8-foot table with table cloth and two chairs. Vendors are responsible for their display needs; electrical hook-ups are extremely limited.

Volunteer nominations due by March 31

The Airman and Family Readiness Center is looking for nominations for this year's Volunteer Excellence Award. Nomination packages will be accepted for federal civilians, family members and retirees who performed outstanding volunteer work of a sustained and direct nature. Nominations are due by March 31.

The award will be presented at the Volunteer Recognition Breakfast held on April 19 at 8:30 a.m. at Club Hill.

Women's History Month events

The following Women's History Month events are scheduled to begin in the coming week with the Career Broadening event on March 11 as a featured highlight:

2010 Military Child Award nominations due today

Nominations close February 25 for the 2010 Military Child Award, administered by program officials in San Antonio, Texas. The award recognizes the service and sacrifices of the nation's youngest heroes. Anyone can nominate a deserving child for the award, but the nominee must be enrolled in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System and be between the ages of 8 and 18.

St. Patrick's Day party at Club Hill

Friday, March 13, St. Patrick's Day Party, 4 p.m. -- includes green beer and giveaways

Saturday, March 27, UFC 111 -- free with limited food menu and drink specials available beginning at 6 p.m. The fight starts at 8 p.m. Members can reserve tables.

Wednesday, Membership Appreciation Night -- (Corned beef and cabbage)

Sunday breakfast now served 10 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Pajamas in the library at March event

Pajama Party, Tuesday, March 2 -- Grab your favorite pair of pajamas, bring the whole family and celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday at the library. Enjoy stories, crafts and activities that honor his sometimes wacky sense of humor. Program will begin at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments served.

Ongoing programs

Story Hour -- An hour of stories, crafts and activities for preschoolers held every Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

Book Bites -- A book discussion group that meets every second Tuesday of the month at 11 a.m.

Contractors conference set for April

Hill Air Force Base and Air Force Association Industrial Associates will host the third contracting requirements symposium held in six years at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center on April 13-14.

The symposium gives contractors an opportunity to get details on upcoming projects and also serves as a way of improving communication between industry and government leaders which ultimately results in better results for the warfighter. Industry representatives also get the opportunity to gain contacts and network with each other.

Author to keynote symposium on Monday

The keynote address at the 2010 Transformation Symposium at the Base Theater will be presented by a nationally acclaimed educator who chose to stay in the inner city and influence students for the better.

Monday morning at 7:30, author Salome Thomas-El will open the first ever Continuous Process Improvement event aimed at developing leadership, sustaining the Voluntary Protection Program, problem solving and executive management.
