March 1, 4 p.m., Warrior Fitness Center, Half Marathon Training Circuit -- train with fitness center staff every Monday and Wednesday at 4 p.m. beginning March 1 for the Hill Air Force Base Half-Marathon on May 22. This will be a 12-week training program.

Class gets back to basics for PT

Having trouble passing your Physical Training test? Do you want to improve your current PT score? Come to the 6 a.m. Fitness Improvement Program Workout, Monday through Thursday in the Bubble for a half-hour class. The class incorporates every part of the PT test in order to help improve scores and gets back to the basics.

The high intensity circuit training workout involves ten stations which work upper body, lower body and abs that class members repeat two times. In between each station members do ten push-ups or ten sit-ups.

Thousands sign up for FitFamily

RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Within the first week of the launch of FitFamily, more than 2,000 families have signed up for the program at http://www.usafFitFamily.com.

FitFamily empowers families to take charge of their lifestyles and make healthier choices.

The program offers innovative ideas, resources and activities for Air Force families to improve their family's healthy and fitness habits.

Team Lean Challenge returns to Hill AFB

The command-wide program known as the Team Lean Challenge was so successful from 2007 to 2009 that it's coming back to Hill Air Force Base and other bases across Air Force Materiel Command this month. The official theme of the Team Lean Challenge, "Cleared for Take Off," focuses on clearing the way for permanent healthy lifestyle changes.

Survivor: Out Think, Out Run, Out Last competition

The Survivor: Out Think, Out Run, Out Last Competition hits the Warrior Health and Fitness Center on March 13.

The spin-off of the popular TV show "Survivor" will begin at 9 a.m. and teams of five (minimum two males and two females on each team) will compete against one another in testing physical and mental abilities in various challenges. Teams will be eliminated after 10 rounds.

All teams must sign up by March 6.

Basketball Skills event at the fitness center

A basketball skills competition will hit the court at the Warrior Health and Fitness Center on March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, at 10 a.m.-noon.

Participants will be eligible to complete an NCAA Tournament bracket. There will be winners for each Basketball Skills event.

Fitness Center Quarterly Challenge Feb. 22-27

The Quarterly Challenge: Push, Pull Dip and 1.5 Mile Run competition at the Warrior Health and Wellness Center will begin Monday, March 22, and continue through Feb. 27.

Winners will be announced for each quarter event as will the overall grand winners for best cumulative times for each event.

Strength and endurance will challenge the toughest during this week-long competition.

Fitness center's Mommy and Me/Daddy and Me class

The Mommy and Me or Daddy and Me class begins March 2 at the Hess Fitness Center dance room, 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The class will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays for four weeks.

Learn ways to improve your fitness with your toddler.

Hill Airman passes his martial arts title to Ogden Air Logistics Center civilian

Airman 1st Class Robby Hedrick, 75th Air Base Wing Public Affairs specialist, granted his title of Utah Director for Sadiq Warrior Arts to Cris Crismon, of the Ogden Air Logistics Center Manpower division, during the inaugural Utah Filipino Martial Arts Workshop held in West Haven, Feb. 4.

The workshop was hosted by the Sadiq Warrior Arts Federation, and instructional sessions were taught by Guro Brandon Jordan, the founder of Mandala Mandiriga and director of the West Coast division of the Sadiq Warrior Arts Federation.

When measured against new physical training standards, fail rate increases

Under a directive issued by Air Force headquarters, the new physical training requirements go into effect July 1.

The Air Force means to have healthier, better-prepared members at all levels, and the new emphasis brings into play aerobic conditioning, strength training and flexibility, and healthy eating

"Health benefits from an active lifestyle will increase productivity, optimize health, and decrease absenteeism while maintaining a higher level of readiness," the Air Force Web site on the new standards explains.

Project Warrior: Challenges put being Airman first, push limits

The 388th Fighter Wing recently launched a program to sharpen its Airmen, called Project Warrior.

"It's easy for people to completely focus on being a good specialist, or worker, and lose sight of what's truly expected," said Chief Master Sgt.

Swimming lessons set to begin

The Indoor Pool will begin offering swimming lessons on Feb. 22. Group lessons cost $30 per student and include 30-minute classes. Classes are Monday-Thursday, four days a week for two weeks, and will be offered again in coming sessions but then must be paid for signing up for another session. Appropriate classes for each skill level are as follows:

Level 1, 3:30 p.m.-4 p.m. (Ages 3-5)

Level 2, 4 p.m.-4:30 p.m. (Ages 6-9)

Level 3, 4:30 p.m.-5 p.m. (Swimming experience)

The first session, Session 1 is offered Feb.

Fit at Fifty and Beyond class offered by the HAWC

Get fit at age 50 and beyond! A class will be offered by the Health and Wellness Center for six weeks as a series, your choice, either Tuesday or Thursday. But you must register to participate. Let the HAWC help you get started again on physical activity, exercise, trying a new activity, finding new ways to add exercise to your life and learning more about nutrition, strength exercises and flexibility.

If you are already exercising it may be time to push yourself a little harder.

Activities will include a walk in the park, luncheon and award ceremony.
