Detour due to gas line work on Foulois Road

Questar Gas Co. has a gas line replacement project that will affect Foulois Road near Buildings 782 and 783 requiring excavation and repair of asphalt.

Continuing through Aug. 20, a bypass route will be in place as construction activities begin on Foulois Road.

The bypass route will be in effect throughout the duration of the construction project and will consist of a clearly marked graded dirt road.

Drivers using the bypass route are cautioned to use reduced speeds of 10 mph.

Project schedules are weather permitting.

'D' and 'E' Avenues, Weiner Street, Canberra Road paving projects under way

The 75th Civil Engineering Squadron will be conducting a paving project on "D" Avenue, Weiner Street (8th Street) and Canberra Road.

"D" Avenue will be closed through Thursday, July 29.

Canberra Road will be closed through Friday, July 30.

Weiner Street will be closed approximately Monday, August 2, through Tuesday, August 3.

The intersections of "D" Avenue with Wardleigh Road, 6th Street and Balmer Street will remain open during construction.

All construction efforts are weather permitting.

Latest update on Wardleigh Road project

The 75th Civil Engineer Squadron has a paving project on Wardleigh Road ("M" Avenue to "H" Avenue).

The Phase 1 of this effort is scheduled to begin Sunday, Aug. 1 through Aug. 30. Starting approximately Aug. 1, Wardleigh Road ("M" Avenue to "H" Avenue) will be partially closed for extensive milling of the full width of the road. Traffic will be reduced to one lane each way. Accessibility will be maintained. Crosswalks will be maintained as safely allowed around construction equipment. The project schedule is subject to weather permitting.

Free backpacks for military kids

Hill's IB Express store will be hosting "Operation: Backpack" on Aug. 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The store will be handing out free backpacks to the children of military families, including some school supplies, while supplies last. The IB Express store is located in Building 2740 on "F" Avenue on base. All children must be accompanied by a parent or care provider.

LOA social on Aug. 5

The Wasatch Chapter of the Logistics Officers Association will be hosting a membership drive and social event on Thursday, Aug. 5, 3:30 p.m. at Club Hill. Military and civilian logisticians are encouraged to attend and bring a guest. Free food will be available.

The LOA provides opportunities to network, attend professional conferences, and tour local industries while also providing scholarship funds and supporting the Fisher House and the Mountain Ridge Assisted Living Facility.

Upcoming medical clinic closure

The base clinic will delay opening its doors until 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 9 and will remain open until the normal time of 5 p.m. This is to allow the 75th Medical Group to participate in the base ORE. For more information, please contact the base clinic at (801) 728-2600.

Lane restrictions on Wardleigh Road

Continuing through Aug. 15 Wardleigh Road will experience lane restrictions to allow manhole access for workers.

One eastbound lane will close from Building 849 to Building 847 and one northbound lane at Building 1205. The closure is needed to ensure the safety of workers. For questions, contact Gerard Babauta at (801) 777-1696.

Nation's Defenders Picnic Aug. 20

All active duty, guard and Reserve military personnel and their families are invited to the Salute to Our Nation's Defenders Picnic on Aug. 20 at Centennial Park from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Gourmet food will be catered by Gastronomy Inc. and there will be live entertainment and games for the kids.

The event is hosted by the Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee and is meant to recognize and thank all military for their service to our country.

Club Hill to feature its Buffalo Brewfest Aug. 27

Join in the fun as Club Hill celebrates micro brews at the Buffalo Brewfest, Aug. 27, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A $10 ticket includes a signature sample glass and 10 sample tickets.

Tickets go on sale Monday, Aug. 2 (must be 18 years or older).

Prize drawings throughout the event will include a grand prize of three days, two nights at the Green Valley Ranch Resort, Las Vegas (includes up to $300 for airfare and a free rental car).

Entertainment will be provided by the Codi Jordan Band and Roby Kap of the Kap Brothers Band.

Clarification and correction

In an article on the history of the 34th Fighter Squadron, the Hilltop Times edition of July 15 presented some information which needs clarification and correction. The 34th FS was the first combat operational non-training designated fighter squadron to get the F-16.

A historical photo accompanying the article showed Ram members at Korat RTAFB, Thailand, 1969. The photo caption gave an incorrect approximation date and gave no location for where the photo was taken.

Efforts to freecycle office furniture at Hill

In coordination with continued efforts to clean up and restore usable space it has been coordinated with the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office to allow the turn-in of specific office furniture items WITHOUT the normal required paperwork.

Please remember that it is imperative that no paperwork be left behind in desks, shelving and cabinets, when delivering them to DRMO.

On Thursday, July 22, DRMO will be accepting both serviceable and unserviceable cabinets and shelving.

On Aug. 5, DRMO will be accepting both serviceable and unserviceable desks.

Wobble Trap League high scorers

The Hill Rod and Gun Club sponsored a Wobble trap league from June to July. Twelve gun club members competed in the 300 target event. Andrew Chudy was high overall shooter with a score of 286/300. Dart Davis, runner up posted a score of 284/300. The overall high scoring three-man team members were Andrew Chudy, Gary Flint and Merv Smith.

The Gun Club will also be holding its annual Steak Fry and Shoot on Aug. 7. If you are interested, please contact the rod and gun club at (801) 777-677.

Questar Gas Co. has a gas line replacement project that will affect Warrior Way and Perimeter Road near Building 1910. Parking lots southeast of Building 1926 will also be affected.

Continuing through July 23, a bypass route will be activated and construction activities will begin on Warrior Way.

The bypass route will be in effect throughout the duration of the construction project and will consist of a clearly marked graded dirt road. Drivers using the bypass route are cautioned to use reduced speeds of 10 mph.

Local traffic to North Drive will not be affected.
