Sprucing up for 'Arbor Day'

For most of the United States, Arbor Day has already come and gone. For Hill, though, Arbor Day is just around the bend on May 13.

Though Arbor Day is only recognized for 24 hours, many volunteers and base workers are already hard at work making the trail by Pond 3 cleaner and safer. By weeding and mulching, the volunteers are helping to control the spread of a weed called "puncturevine." This weed is notorious for leaving behind sharp thorns that can injure the feet of humans and pets and even puncture a bicycle tire.

Master Sgt. Deegan

Hill first sergeant is AFMC 'First Shirt' of the Year

As a first sergeant, Master Sgt. John Deegan, a member of the 75th Security Forces Squadron, knows how to provide the best for his Airmen. In fact, Deegan goes above and beyond to make sure his top priority is "taking care of people."

Air Force Materiel Command recognized Deegan's hard work and accomplishments by naming him "First Sergeant of the Year" for his work as a first sergeant for the 775th Civil Engineering Squadron in 2009.

COA: Youth Center' outstanding provider of after school services'

The Council on Accreditation recently conducted an audit of the Youth Center at Hill Air Force Base and found all fundamental and core areas of the program to be in compliance. The COA praised the center in a news release as an outstanding provider of after school services.

While the Youth Center regularly maintains its state and federal credentials, the COA conducts audits at the international level as an independent nonprofit accreditation organization working in the behavioral health care and human services areas.
