Team Hill's 'S-Team' stands tall for any challenge

Not too long ago, I found myself thinking about the significant roles both the operations and support functions of an organization have on the organization's overall mission success. Having served 24 years in the active duty Army and now several years as a federal civilian employee, I've always viewed everyone in my chain of command as an equally essential part of the team.

$600,000 grant going to Hill school program

Hill Field Elementary School got some welcome news recently when in late June the Department of Defense announced it had approved an application by the school for approximately $600,000 in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) funds in the form of a grant.

Efforts to 'freecycle' office furniture at Hill

"Freecycling" is a term that describes the recycling of an unwanted item by offering it to someone else for free. Team Hill has its own business version of "freecycling," one of the trendier attempts in these fiscally tighter times.

In coordination with continued efforts to clean up and restore usable space it has been coordinated with the DLA Disposition Services (previously DMRO) to allow the turn-in of specific office furniture items WITHOUT the normal required paperwork.

July 30 women only motorcycle course

Allan Woods, Installation motorcycle safety chief, has scheduled a Women Only Experienced Rider Course (ERC) on Friday, July 30. Learn emergency maneuvers on a controlled range, rather than on a busy street.

This is a very good course especially for the rider with a lot of experience. Riders do tend to pick up bad habits over the years and this course will help you to identify and eliminate those on the learning range instead of on the road.

Green Flag prepares Airmen, Soldiers for joint fight

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- As he flies a combat air patrol over the cities of Medina Wasl and Medina Jabal, Capt. James Russell pushes up the throttle on his F-16. His $20 million aircraft is running low on fuel and a KC-135 is standing by in the distance to top off the tanks, but it will have to wait. Soldiers are pinned down in a firefight below and he can hear the hail of gunfire over the radio as he checks in with the on-scene joint terminal attack controller.

Children and emergency medical care

It's hard for a parent to see their child get hurt, even if it's just a small bump or scratch. Sometimes it can be hard to tell when children need medical attention or when a home treatment will suffice.

Parents know best

Though doctors and qualified medical professionals can provide guidelines on when injuries are serious enough to merit a doctor's visit, it's important to remember that, as parents, you know your child best.

Belle of the Ball

The Belle of the Ball free dress loan program will host a donation drive Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the Base Theater, Building 441.

"Unfortunately some of the dresses in our inventory are a little dated which is why we like to have an annual dress drive to keep our inventory current," says Kay Zobrist, spouse of Col. Scott Zobrist, 388th Fighter Wing commander, and co-organizer of the dress loan program with Heather Higby, spouse of 75th Air Base Wing Commander Col. Patrick Higby.
