Disabilities luncheon today with speaker

The Persons With Disabilities Committee is hosting its annual luncheon today,11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Club Hill. The luncheon is held to award outstanding Department of Defense workers with disabilities and the guest speaker will be Kim Peek, a savant who inspired Dustin Hoffman's character in the movie "Rain Man." Touted as a walking encyclopedia, Peek's knowledge-only IQ equivalent is 184.

National anthem auditions today

Try-outs to perform the national anthem at official events on Hill Air Force Base will be held today, 3 p.m.-4 p.m., at the Base Theater.

Federal Benefits Open Season fair

Federal Employee Health Benefit representatives will be available for questions at the Open Season Health Fair on Nov. 3, 4 and 5 at Club Hill from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Brochures and information on 2010 premiums are available only at the Health Fair or at the Office of Personnel Management Web site at http://www.opm.gov/insure/.

To make health insurance changes federal retirees can enroll online at https://www.opm.gov/retire/ or call the Office of Personnel Management toll free at 1 (888) 767-6738. Changes will be effective Jan. 1.

Air Force employees may make open season enrollments, changes or cancellations through the Benefits and Entitlements Service Team by using either a Web application at https://w20.afpc.randolph.af.mil/AFPCSecureNET20/CheckPortal.aspx or by using the BEST phone system at this corrected phone number -- 1 (800) 525-0102 and then pressing 2 for Air Force civilian, then 2 for BEST Benefits and Entitltements and following the prompts. Press 1 for Health Benefits when the system voices the benefits main menu.

For dental/visual changes go to https://www.benefeds.com.

For Flexible Spending Account Program changes go to https://www.fsafeds.com.

The window for changing benefits begins Nov. 9 and ends Dec. 14. Another health fair will be held Dec. 8, 9 and 10.

Traffic device work to close 4th Street

Civil engineers will be installing traffic control devices in the pavement on 4th Street between "D" and "E" Streets. 4th Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic from Nov. 2 until Nov. 12. This closure is necessary to allow the concrete pavement to cure prior to re-opening for vehicles.

Motorists warned more U.S. 89 work

Intermittent lane and shoulder closures should be expected in off-peak hours and on weekends through mid-November.
