Around Hill: HAWC offers several Lunch and Learns

Throughout November, the Hill Air Force Base Health and Wellness Center is offering a variety of classes focusing on Team Hill's four pillars of wellness (physical, mental, spiritual, and social).

Upon supervisor's approval, "LX" leave can be used for Health and Wellness classes.

To register or to get more information about these classes, please call the HAWC at (801) 777-1215.

Lunch and Learn classes are held weekly at the Health and Wellness Center classroom and are held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Registrants are encouraged to bring their lunch.

Tuesday, Nov. 3, "Freedom from Headaches" -- More than 50 million Americans suffer from regular headaches. A few simple changes in your daily routine can make an enormous difference and give you a new lease on life. Come see just how easy it can be!

Tuesday, Nov. 3, and Thursday, Nov. 5, "Healthy Living Program" (11:30 a.m.- 2 p.m.) --- Learn how to take control of your ongoing health condition rather than letting it control you. If you have diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, COPD, fibromyalgia, or any other chronic disease, Healthy Living is for you. One time per week for six weeks, you will learn how to manage symptoms, learn about chronic pain management, communicate effectively with your doctor, lessen your frustration, fight fatigue, build your confidence, make daily tasks easier, and get more out of life!

Tuesday, Nov. 10, "Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP)" -- This course is for engaged couples, newlyweds, and married couples. Find out if your relationship is currently in the: 1. Green Light -- you are doing the basics right, but can learn more to enhance your relationship; 2. Yellow Light -- caution, you are developing some relationship habits that can harm your marriage; 3. Red Light -- stop! You need to make definite communication changes immediately to save your relationship from unhappiness or even dissolution. This class will give you the necessary skills to start and/or maintain a "Green Light" (enhanced marital satisfaction) in your marriage! Guest speaker will be Daryl Sondrup, 75th Force Support Squadron Family advocate.

Thursday, Nov. 12, "PREP No. 2" -- Participants must have attended the first "PREP" class to attend the "PREP No. 2" class.

Tuesday, Nov. 17, "Feed the Machine" -- Approximately 58 million Americans are overweight and suffer from weight related illnesses. Learn the seven steps to heal your body and maintain proper body weight.

Thursday, Nov. 19, "Holiday Eating Strategies" -- Get tips on how to manage and maintain a healthy weight during the holiday season. Find out the real truth about portion sizes at your holiday meal when eating out or at home.

Caregiver Classes, Mondays, Nov. 2, 9, 16 -- Caregivers of adults who are elderly, frail, disabled, or has a chronic disease, this series is for you! Learn new skills on how to take care of yourself, the person you are caring for and avoid caregiver burnout. The topic Nov. 2 will focus on advance directives. The topic Nov. 9 will be "'Less is More' Poppycock! How to Design the Life of a Caregiver," and the topic Nov. 16 will be "Being prepared and organized."
