Nonjudicial punishment under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, or UCMJ, is a tool available to commanders often used in response to suspected violations of the UCMJ by service members under his or her command. The member can choose processing by Article 15 instead of trial by court-martial. Choosing processing via Article 15 is not an admission of guilt, and the commander must still consider the evidence and determine if the member committed the offense. If the commander finds the member guilty he or she then imposes appropriate punishment.

Since Sept. 1, several Hill Airmen have received nonjudicial punishments under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice:

An Airman assigned to the 75th Security Forces Squadron was found sleeping at his post.

Punishment: The member received forfeitures of $784 pay per month for two months.

An Airman first class assigned to the 388th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron failed to remain in his domicile while on medical quarters.

Punishment: The member received 15 days extra duty, a reprimand, a suspended reduction in grade to Airman and 30 days extra duty.

An Airman first class assigned to the 388th Equipment Maintenance Squadron stole money from another Airman.

Punishment: The member received a reduction in grade to Airman, 30 days extra duty and a reprimand.

An Airman first class assigned to the 388th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron failed to refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages while under the legal drinking age of 21.

Punishment: The member received a suspended reduction in grade to Airman and 15 days extra duty.

An Airman first class assigned to the 388th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron failed to refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages while under the legal drinking age of 21.

Punishment: The member received 15 days extra duty, a suspended reduction in grade to Airman and 30 days extra duty.

An Airman first class assigned to the 388th Equipment Maintenance Squadron failed to shave.

Punishment: The member received forfeitures of $168 pay per month for two months, seven days extra duty, a reprimand and a suspended reduction in grade to Airman basic.

A senior airman assigned to the 775th Civil Engineering Squadron was caught driving while under the influenc.

Punishment: The member received a reduction in grade to Airman first class, 15 days extra duty, a reprimand, and suspended forfeitures of $500 pay per month for two months.

A senior Airman assigned to the 388th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron endangered the physical health and welfare of a child.

Punishment: The member received a reduction to the grade of airman first class, 15 days extra duty, a reprimand, and suspended 30 days extra duty.

A senior Airman assigned to the 649th Munitions Squadron failed to go to his appointed place of duty.

Punishment: The member received a reduction to the grade of Airman first class.

A senior Airman assigned to the 75th Security Forces Squadron used disrespectful language toward a non-commissioned officer.

Punishment: The member received forfeitures of $200 pay for two months and a suspended reduction in grade to Airman first class.

A staff sergeant assigned to the 729 Air Control Squadron provided alcoholic beverages to Airmen under the age of 21 and engaged in an unprofessional relationship with an Airman.

Punishment: The member received a reduction in grade to senior airman, forfeitures of $929 pay per month for two months, and 45 days extra duty.
