Consequences serious for wing unprepared for inspections

Recent events have reinforced the need for additional attention to the Self Inspection Program. According to an Air Force Press News account, during the recent inspection of a wing at Minot Air Force Base, S.D., multiple deficiencies including a rating of "not ready" in the nuclear arena were identified. Although the safety and security of nuclear operations was never compromised, the wing commander was relieved of duty due to loss of confidence in his ability to command.

No-Notice or Limited Notice Inspections is the Air Forces new standard.

John Litanski of the Inspector General Inspections Office at Hill Air Force Base emphasizes the importance of being prepared.

"During past inspections our efforts were evaluated and have proven that we can support the warfighter," Litanski said. As part of Team Hill's efforts to maintain a successful inspection program, strict adherence to Air Force instruction is mandatory. One team one fight -- we are all responsible to identify potential findings.
