Defense Logistics Agency Ogden leaders at Hill Air Force Base pledged to take more active roles in workplace safety by embracing the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Voluntary Protection Program last month.
DLA Ogden's commander, Army Col. James Kinkade; American Federation of Government Employees Local 1592 President Troy Tingey; and seven leaders representing DLA Ogden's various activities signed a VPP commitment letter in early October.
By signing the letter, management and labor at DLA Ogden signaled a readiness to begin working in tandem toward approval as a VPP site, which recognizes the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who achieve exemplary occupational safety and health conditions.
"I believe the key to a successful VPP is working from the ground up with all the key players; employees, union and management," Tingey said. "We need to be sharing the roles of leadership, information and accountability, all while prioritizing mission requirements in order to meet the warfighter's needs, while driving down safety incidents of all sorts and the expenses that they carry."
"Safety is paramount throughout the diverse work force at DLA Ogden," DLA Ogden VPP Site Lead Brad Baggiano said. "The ultimate goal of creating a safe workplace is to send each employee home safe and healthy each day."
