U.S. Army Corps of Engineers rep assesses Hill progress on projects

Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Dorko, Deputy Commanding General for military and international operations at the headquarters of U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, visited Team Hill on March 2.

The purpose of his visit was to meet with Team Hill project leaders and workers and to see the constructions sites that are being worked on and developed.

"Our relationship with Hill Air Force Base is really good, and this is a great opportunity for me to come out here and meet with our partners and customers," Dorko said. "Over the past several years we have done about 200 million dollars worth of work just on Hill Air Force Base."

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers mission is set into two buckets. One is the civil works mission which focuses on parks, recreation areas and construction within communities. The other falls into the area which is in the visiting general's domain -- military construction for the Army and Air Force worldwide.

Dorko explained that the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers does more than just military construction.

"We don't just do Army and Air Force construction," said Gen. Dorko. "We also help out other government agencies such as Customs and Border Patrol, Federal Bureau of Investigations, National Security Agency and many more if they have construction requirements and do not have the capability to build."

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers also has a huge presence around the world.

"We have a lot of construction in Korea, Europe, Iraq and Afghanistan," said the general. "We have done construction for our forces that have or are deployed in Iraq such as construction of the base camps, and rebuilding Iraq's oil and electrical infrastructures, schools, roads and some government buildings and are planning to do the same thing in Afghanistan."

With different projects going on all over the world, Hill Air Force Base is just one of the many stops for the U.S. Army Corps general to visit and make sure the projects are running smoothly.
