Gillespie: Provo comedian's video offensive

OGDEN -- When Adrienne Gillespie saw a Utah video in the news and that it was close to becoming viral, she had a gut reaction.

"I am so offended, so disheartened," she posted on her Facebook page. "Few things give me pause such as this."

Schoolgirls excluded from movie screening of 'Red Tails'

DALLAS -- When 5,700 fifth-grade boys in Dallas' public schools recently went to see a movie about black fighter pilots in World War II, the girls stayed in school and saw a different movie instead.

One of the pilots is among those asking why.

LDS public relations topic for Ogden SUP

OGDEN -- The Ogden Pioneer Chapter Sons of the Utah Pioneers will meet at noon Monday at Comfort Suites Inn, 2250 S. 1200 West.

Blake Whalen will speak about "Public Relations for the LDS Church."

Whalen is the general manager of The Boyer Company at Business Depot Ogden. He also is the director of the Utah Public Relations Council for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The cost of one meeting for potential members is paid for by the chapter. For other guests, there is a $12.50 charge.

WSU to host talk on slavery, Constitution

OGDEN — Weber State University will host a talk, “Weber Reads: Slavery and the Constitution,” at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Stewart Library Hetzel-Hoellein Room.

This free presentation will feature Adrienne Gillespie, WSU’s Center for Diversity & Unity coordinator.

$3 million in gold nuggets stolen from historic mining display

YREKA, Calif. -- Thieves in Yreka, Calif., made off with $3 million in gold nuggets Wednesday after breaking into the Siskiyou County Courthouse and smashing a glass case that contained a display on the area's mining history, officials said.

John Rich, award-winner director of landmark sitcoms, dies at 86

LOS ANGELES — As a top television comedy director who won an Emmy directing “The Dick Van Dyke Show” in the early 1960s, John Rich was faced with a tough choice in 1970.

On the same day he received a phone call from Mary Tyler Moore wanting to set up a meeting to discuss his directing the initial episode of her new TV series, he got a call from Norman Lear who wanted to send him a script for a pilot he was about to produce.

The historic cabin of Miles Goodyear is moved from the site of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ogden Temple, which is being remodeled, to a temporary site in November. Weber County DUP museum changing locations today

OGDEN -- After spending the past few months in limbo, a pair of historic buildings owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will soon have permanent homes.

More than 100 years of history will move a few city blocks today as the Weber County Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum building will be moved from its current location at 2148 Grant Ave. to 2104 Lincoln Ave. on a half-acre lot donated by the city.
