Scramble for Easter eggs on Saturday in Syracuse

SYRACUSE — An Easter egg scramble is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday for children 11 and younger at the northeast corner of Founder’s Park at 1700 S. 200 West.

Children can have their picture taken with the Easter bunny. Accommodations for special needs children will be available.

Easter memorial balloon release set for Saturday in Ogden

OGDEN — Myers Mortuaries and Evergreen Memorial Park will hold an Easter Memorial Balloon release at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Those attending are requested to be at the Memorial Park mall, 100 Monroe Blvd., by 2:30 p.m. so they can decorate their balloons.

Felt-tipped pens will be available to write messages on the balloons, or prepared messages may be written on paper to be inserted in the balloons before filling them.

A helium tank will be provided to fill the biodegradable balloons.

Riverdale students fill Easter baskets for peers at Primary Children's

RIVERDALE — Big purple boxes were overflowing with Easter treats Friday at Riverdale Elementary. Those treats will now fill more than 100 Easter baskets to be delivered to children at Primary Children’s Hospital just in time for Easter next week.

The service project has been going on for eight years at the school, and every year the students, teachers and parents look forward to filling the baskets.

Mom Kristi Edelman hurried into the school to bring a bag full of scapbooking supplies to her son’s first-grade class Friday.

Hill airmen deliver Christmas to foster care children

NORTH SALT LAKE -- Christmas came early for Top of Utah foster care families Thursday.

About 80 uniformed airmen from Hill Air Force Base's 388th and 419th fighter wings gathered at the Utah Foster Care Foundation offices in Ogden to help package and deliver Christmas gifts to foster and adoptive families in Weber, Davis, Morgan and Cache counties.

A family was at Christmas Village, where their daughter took a picture with Santa and got a customary candy cane.

Crushed car shows only one way many lives are vulnerable

The family whose car was crushed by a tree in the recent windstorm reminds me of a 1948 movie, "The Bicycle Thief."

The film is set in economically ravaged Rome after World War II. A man with a small family finally gets his bicycle out of the pawnshop so he can get a job.
