Hollywood shooting, fire leaves 2 dead, 3 injured

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- A shooting and fire Thursday afternoon at a house in East Hollywood left two people dead, including the suspected gunman, and three others seriously wounded.

Authorities said the incident was the result of domestic violence. The wounded, two women and a man, all in their 30s, were all shot in the upper torso. They were hospitalized in serious condition, but officials said all three are expected to survive. All were conscious and able to talk, police said.

Pedophile cases in Hollywood attracting attention

LOS ANGELES -- In his private journal, Jason Michael Handy once described himself as a "pedophile, full blown."

Handy snapped more than 1,000 photos of girls at the elementary school across the street from his house, using a camera with a telephoto lens, according to court documents. He volunteered at a Malibu church, where he worked with 6-year-olds. And his job as a production assistant at one of the nation's most prominent producers of children's television programs, Nickelodeon, gave him access to child actors on and off the set, and allowed him to exchange email addresses and phone numbers with them.

Missing Hollywoodland signs have residents mystified

LOS ANGELES — Residents living on the narrow lanes beneath the Hollywood sign have quarreled for months over small directional signs pointing tourists to a place where the iconic Tinseltown symbol can be viewed and photographed.

The road signs benefited homeowners living on the street that dead-ends at the locked fire road that leads to Mount. Lee and the Hollywood sign. Unfortunately, the signs funneled sightseers and tour buses onto other nearby streets. Then the signs mysteriously disappeared. Whether that’s a crime depends on which street you live.

But now real thieves have stolen two signs that nearly everyone in the hillside neighborhood mourns losing: the historic 1923 "Hollywoodland" bronze plaques that marked the stone gateway to the community.
