UDOT: 2012 will be a record-breaking year for roadwork

OGDEN — Get ready for a busy commute — 2012 will be the busiest road construction season in history.

The Utah Department of Transportation has released its 20 most significant road projects for the upcoming construction season as part of its “Know Where Know Why” campaign.

The list includes significant work on some of UDOT’s largest projects, which are all scheduled for completion this year, said UDOT spokesman Nate McDonald.

Weber commission approves $500K for corridor preservation

OGDEN — The Weber County Commission approved spending up to $500,000 from corridor preservation funds during its Tuesday morning meeting.

The funds are part of a cooperative agreement between the county and the Utah Department of Transportation for a project involving Interstate 84 and Highway 89.

The total price tag of the project is almost $2 million.

Driver gets 3 speeding tickets in hour

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Traffic officers along Interstate 84 in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge say a lead-footed driver was in such a hurry to make a court date on a meth possession charge that he racked up $2,000 worth of speeding tickets in an hour.

Crash remains under investigation. On 14 December 2011 at approximately 9:30 p.m., a 2004 VW Jetta was traveling WB I-84 at mp 105. The Jetta was captured on radar at 118mph by Morgan County SO. Morgan County SO pulled out and attempted to stop the vehicle but lost sight of the vehicle due to high speeds. The Morgan County SO vehicle came around the corner at MP 104 and found a crash scene. The suspect vehicle impacted a rock wall and then impacted the guardrail and rolled. The force of the crash dislodged the engine and ejected both passengers. Two killed in crash on I-84 in Morgan

MORGAN — Investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in a high-speed, single-car crash on Interstate 84 that that killed two people.

UDOT seeking federal grants for Weber, Box Elder roads

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Department of Transportation hopes federal money will benefit a few Top of Utah construction projects in 2012.

At Thursday's Utah Transportation Commission meeting in Salt Lake City, the state announced it is seeking money from the Federal Highway Administration to complete several projects next year that otherwise will have to wait.

Crashed? Get off the road, say UDOT & UHP

LAYTON -- Next time you get into a fender bender on the freeway, the state wants you to take it off the road.

The Utah Department of Transportation has begun a new campaign to alert motorists involved in minor traffic accidents to move off busy roadways when exchanging insurance information with other drivers or waiting for the police.

One California man has died as a result of a crash involving at least 25 vehicles Saturday morning on westbound Interstate 84 near Mountain Green. The accident began when a double-tanker carrying butane gas jack-knifed on a bridge because of icy conditions. Two semis hit that truck, then at least 22 more vehicles, including another semi, hit the first three semis. Huge crash kills one, closes I-84

MOUNTAIN GREEN — Utah Highway Patrol expects to have a busy time reconstructing and investigating a massive Saturday morning accident involving 24 vehicles.

The accidents on westbound Interstate 84, beginning at Mile Marker 90, critically injured three people and led to one man accidentally slipping off a bridge to his death.

RIVERDALE -- Two southbound lanes on Interstate 15 were closed for a couple of hours Wednesday after concrete fell into the roadway from the Interstate 84 bridge.

Seatbelt saves teen in I-84 rollover

OGDEN -- A 16-year-old walked away unhurt from a rollover accident on Interstate 84 around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The teen was heading toward Ogden from Morgan in the fast lane when he dropped something on the floor of his older model four-door BMW, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Pope said.

RIVERDALE -- A truck with a flatbed trailer carrying 34 tons of magnesium chloride flipped over on the Interstate 84 eastbound exit near Riverdale and nearly crashed onto Interstate 15 below, snarling traffic for hours and sparking a large-scale cleanup effort.
