Official: Canal maintenance not just Pleasant View's problem

PLEASANT VIEW -- Payment of $2,600 to North Ogden for cleaning the canal running between 476 West and Hillsborough Drive is just the tip of the iceberg as far as keeping the canal clean is concerned, says Councilman Michael Humphreys.

Remuda resident: 'Clouds of mosquitoes' accompany irrigation ditch

FARR WEST -- An open irrigation ditch going through the Remuda subdivision is causing concerns for neighbors, the city council was told at a recent meeting.

Tamara Jones said she has lived in the subdivision since 2003 and would really like the ditch that runs through her property to be covered. She said the developer promised when she moved in that the ditch would be covered, and she stated because it is not, she can't use about 40 feet of the back portion of her property.

Mayor Jimmie Papageorge reminded Jones that he had offered to split the cost with her to cover the ditch.

Plain City resident worries about safety of children near canal

PLAIN CITY — Resident Jake Weston attended a city council meeting to let council members know he wants something done about the open canal along 2200 North because he is very concerned about the safety of children walking to school along the open canal.

Logan pays $175,000 in canal break settlement

LOGAN -- The city has settled its share of a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a 2009 canal breach and landslide that killed a mother and her two children.
