An email from then-CIA Director David Petraeus is among the 99 pages of emails regarding Benghazi released by the White House Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Petraeus objected to the final talking points that U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice used five days after the deadly assault on a U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya. The White House on Wednesday released 99 pages of emails and a single page of hand-written notes made by Petraeus' deputy, Mike Morell, after a meeting at the White House the day before Rice's appearance. Chaffetz not satisfied with release of Benghazi emails

WASHINGTON -- The White House release of some 100 pages of emails and notes about the deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, last year has failed to satisfy congressional Republicans, who are demanding more information.

"Why not release all of the unclassified documents?" said Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. "The president has repeatedly said that when he gets new information, he'll release it to the public. Why not release - instead of the hand-picked ones - why not release all the unclassified documents?"

Chaffetz frustrated with House vote 'protecting tax cheats'

WASHINGTON — The House on Monday unanimously backed legislation to bar federal funding for contractors who fall behind on taxes, but ultimately rejected a proposal to prohibit tax-delinquent individuals from working for the federal government.

Chaffetz: Opposing Obama is what his constituents want

HEBER CITY — U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz flew home from Washington last week, leaving behind a capital baffled by Republicans like him in Congress: those who stubbornly refuse to compromise with President Barack Obama, a tactic that some see as damaging the GOP brand and pushing the nation repeatedly to the brink of fiscal chaos.

Chaffetz says Super Tuesday time for GOP to rally around Romney

ATLANTA — Mitt Romney is angling to solidify his front-runner status and Rick Santorum to keep it a two-man race as voters in 10 states put Super Tuesday’s imprint on the Republican presidential race. Newt Gingrich just hopes to keep his struggling campaign alive with a strong showing in Georgia.

Chaffetz helping Romney in GOP battle for endorsements

WASHINGTON -- Brrrring.

A GOP congressman's phone rings, and it's Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah at the other end of the line.

"Hey, I'm calling about Mitt Romney," Chaffetz says, recalling his typical spiel to fellow Republicans.

"Where are you on this?

"Have you seen any of the debates?

"Can I send you some clips?"

Two months before Republicans begin choosing a nominee to challenge President Barack Obama, Chaffetz and a select few members of Congress are quietly but constantly coaxing colleagues to pick sides in a Capitol Hill endorsement war.

Utah to Arizona: Don’t toll Interstate 15

Chaffetz won't run against Hatch

SALT LAKE CITY -- Rep. Jason Chaffetz announced Monday that he wouldn't challenge longtime Sen. Orrin Hatch for the Republican nomination next year, ending a statewide effort that has been building for months and possibly disappointing Tea Party advocates who saw him as their best shot for knocking off another GOP senator.

While Chaffetz maintained during his announcement that he could beat Hatch -- and continued to criticize the six-term senator, whom Chaffetz said he hasn't spoken to in "months" -- he acknowledged the race would have been a "blood bath" costing millions of dollars and requiring his entire focus.

Chaffetz says he hasn't decided whether he'll challenge Sen. Hatch in 2012, but it appears he has his sights already set on a statewide campaign. Chaffetz, a tea party favorite who is seen as a serious threat to Hatch's bid for a seventh term, begins a series of statewide town halls Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, only one of which is in his current congressional district.

Sen. Orrin Hatch fights back against Tea Party leaders

SALT LAKE CITY — Sen. Orrin Hatch and his campaign team have heard enough from their most vocal critics and are fighting back, lambasting the leaders of FreedomWorks and the Club for Growth as hypocrites and political has-beens struggling to remain relevant.

The groups counter that Hatch's broadside is "a sign of weakness" and an attempt to shift the conversation away from past votes that may derail his 2012 re-election bid.

Chaffetz town hall meeting today

OGDEN -- U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, will hold a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. today at the Pleasant Valley Branch of the Weber County Library, 5568 Adams Ave., in Washington Terrace.

The meeting will be in the library's black box theater.

Chaffetz, who represents the state's 3rd Congressional District, is holding a series of such meetings around the state. He is widely considered to be a potential challenger to Sen. Orrin Hatch for the Republican U.S. senatorial nomination in 2012.
