Davis High sophomore a 'Judge for a Day'

FARMINGTON — Carissa Uresk, sitting next to the court clerk, flipped through the pages of the court calendar as the judge called each case to the podium.

The Davis High School sophomore is one of six students selected to participate in the “Judge for a Day” program in 2nd and 3rd district courts during April and May.

New judge named in George Zimmerman case

SANFORD, Fla. - The new judge in the George Zimmerman murder case will be Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr., who has been on the bench 15 years.

Cooke’s visits were coordinated around a noon luncheon at the Joy Luck Restaurant in Bountiful. There, Cooke addressed Bountiful city elected leaders, city staff and “regular, everyday Bountiful residents,” said Rob Miller, campaign spokesman.

Website allows people to evaluate Utah judges

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah judges will be evaluated by people who appear in their courtrooms through a new website launched by state officials.

The Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission says Thursday that comments submitted through the website by people with first-hand experience with a judge will be used to formulate a public recommendation when judges stand for retention elections.

The 13-member commission also uses surveys of attorneys who have represented clients before a judge for their recommendations.
