North Ogden Kiwanis Club honors students

NORTH OGDEN -- North Ogden Kiwanis Club members are pleased to have a new Achievement Award for graduating seniors at Weber and Fremont high schools.

The first award will be presented on Friday at Fremont High School; while the second award will be given on Tuesday at Weber High School.

The award will recognize a student whose progress at their school has been significant but did not warrant a scholarship award. Each of the two students will receive a $500 cash award to help further their education goals.

Ray Leo Richards died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, after a fall in his home. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 25, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday. Charlie LaFount Goodliffe

Charlie LaFount Goodliffe, born Feb. 13, 1917, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012. A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 19, as well as from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at the Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 N. 100 East, Tremonton. The funeral will begin at noon Tuesday at Tremonton First Ward. Burial will be in the Brigham City Cemetery with full military honors. Post condolences at www.rogersandtaylor.com. North Ogden Kiwanis Club, Weber School Foundation donate books to schools

NORTH OGDEN — Almost 4,000 new books will be in the hands of students in Weber School District this winter, thanks to the North Ogden Kiwanis Club and Weber School Foundation.

Students at Majestic, Bates, Green Acres, North Ogden, and Valley elementaries all got sets of nonfiction books last month and another large shipment will arrive in February. This is the eighth year the North Ogden Kiwanis Club has donated the large number of books to the six schools.

The club has worked with the Weber School Foundation for several years to get matching funds. This year the foundation matched the $3,000 donated by the Kiwanis Club.

Ogden mayoral debate set for Tuesday night

OGDEN -- The Ogden Noon Exchange Club and the Kiwanis Club of Ogden are jointly sponsoring a debate featuring the eight candidates running for mayor.

Ogden Kiwanis plan pre-parade breakfast

OGDEN -- The Kiwanis Club of Ogden will again hold its pancake breakfast before the Ogden Pioneer Days parade.

Breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and last until 9 a.m. Monday at the Ogden Municipal Gardens at 25th Street and Kiesel Avenue.

The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage and a drink.

The cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children, and all proceeds go to promote programs for children.

Public welcome to hear speaker in Ogden

OGDEN -- Bernie Diamond, longtime resident and supporter of Ogden, will speak at noon today during the meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Ogden at Mount Ogden Grill and Cafe, 440 E. 4400 South.

Kiwanis to hear Peace Corps vet

Robert Hunter will share his experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in the early 1960s with the Kiwanis Club of Ogden at noon today.

The Peace Corps is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. Hunter was one of the first to join and served in India for two years.
